My field trip to KQED was very interesting because it wasn’t exactly how I had expected it to be. Also because I didn’t know exactly what went on at television stations. I had many expectations, some were met but others weren’t. I learned a lot throughout the field trip. It helped a lot that the tour guide knew much of the information about the station. Here are some things that I learned during my visit to KQED.

At the worksite it was pretty calm and quiet. It wasn’t one of their busy days so we didn’t get to see much being done. What we did get to see though was a live radio broadcast being made, people moving sets from one place to another, and people getting programs ready to broadcast. They use a lot of equipment at KQED and much of it is expensive, especially the cameras that are used. They have lights and camera all over the studio. What was interesting for me was going into the control room where they control every little detail during a recording or live show being broadcasted. I think that for me working at a place like this might be interesting but I wouldn’t want it to be as calm and quiet as it was. I would want to work at a place where more things are going on daily. To work at a television station you need to know about multimedia. You have to be up to date with all the new technology out in the world today. It’d be easier if you took classes in high school that teach you about technology such as computers and how to work cameras. Multimedia is a great class that teaches all of that.

Some of the things that I learned about this career is that it really helps if you take internships or volunteer because that way you meet more people that could possibly get you a job somewhere. They told us that everyone starts as an internship and works their way up. Any little thing that you can do will really help you out. I think that what surprised me the most is how the lighting is so important. It takes people that are well experienced to work on the lighting because it really changes the way the room or people look. Something interesting I discovered about the job is that they need to have very good communication skills because everyone has to work as a whole to make sure nothing goes wrong while they are recording or broadcasting. They have people that help them communicate between the studio and the control room. Otherwise things could get a bit chaotic. Something that I wish we could have seen was a show being broadcasted live. It would have been nice to see how things are while they do live shows because it sounds like many things are happening at once.

Overall the trip was interesting even if we didn’t get to see much. I would like to go back on a day where they are more busy so I can see what everyone’s jobs are. It was a nice experience because there was much I didn’t know about television stations. It was also nice being able to see the studio. I never knew how much work went into broadcasting shows.

I had a very fun time in my visit to UC Berkeley. I learned more about what it takes to get into college and how much work you have to put in. My favorite part was being able to learn more about the campus and it’s history. I think that the campus has a nice atmosphere to it. You can just tell that people that study there are focused and determined on what they want to do, they don’t goof off with their work. Even though my expectations weren’t fully met, I still learned a lot by going to visit UC Berkeley.

On my visit to UC Berkeley, I had expected to see more things on the tour. For example, seeing the dorms and going into more of the buildings. Also I was hoping that we would get to see some of the sororities and fraternities because they seem really interesting. One of my expectationd that was met was that the campus is very big. I think that almost everyone got tired from all the walking we did during the tour. Another thing that met my expectations was that there are many students attending UC Berkeley. It didn’t really surprise me because of how popular the school is for provinding a good education. I think that what I most expected was to be able to go into the classrooms. I wanted to see how it would feel like to actually be in there. Also, it would have been nice to talk to some of the professors.

What surprised me during the visit to UC Berkeley was that it’s a type of school where the students hang around and chill with each other. Also that there are many activities that are avaliable for the students. I think what surprised me the most was that you can create your own class. you can teach your class to other students and get credit for it. I think that it is a fun way to get more credits in college. Another thing that surprised me was that the dorms and other types of housing aren’t on campus. This means that the students need to get used to walking around. Personally I like that because you get a good exercise everyday.

I learned a lot on the field trip to UC Berkeley. Even though it wasn’t exactly how I pictured it, I learned many things I never knew about the school. I would like to go back some day because it’s one of the colleges I consider going to. I know I have to work really hard to get in though. Overall it was a great experience and I’m glad I went.

During my first semester in the Digital Safari I learned sooo many things it’s crazy! The first thing we learned was to use photoshop. Through photoshop I have been able to fix many pictures but before we got to fixing pictures, we just started with learning the basic tools. As we learned more we had more assignments. We ended up doing our own triptych and posters for our “I Am From” poems. Then we moved on to photography! Those were some of my favorite assignments because we got to go around the school taking pictures of each other. I got to get creative with my pictures and I put some effects on them. After we were done with photography we moved on to our Histories of Our Families project. I am so proud of finishing the project because it was a lot of work fixing pictures and putting the video together. I’m glad that my family liked it because I worked really hard on it. Now that we are done with the project we are starting to learn how to do 3D animation. We are using a program called Bryce. It’s some what difficult but like everything else we have done in this class I just need to give it time and learn little by little how to use it. I am happy to be in this academy because I am learning many new things.

These are some of my first portfolio pictures. I really enjoyed doing this assignment because i got to play around with a lot of the tools in photoshop. I like photography and all the tips that we were given helped out a lot while taking the pictures. I didn’t know about how much you can improve a picture by just changing the angle of the camera. Now my pictures come out better since we have done this assignment. I like the pictures I took and I’m proud of the final results. For almost all of the pictures I used a tool called curves. This tool really helps to fix the color of the pictures. Then I just played around with the color balance, blur tool, and brightness&contrast. It was probably one of my favorite assignments

poemfinished poem-#2finished

These are my posters for my “I Am From” poem. For the first one (on the left) i wanted a beach on the background because I really like the how the beach looks like on a sunny day. For the pictures I wanted just pictures of my family. My parents and all my siblings are in the pictures I chose. Then for the second one I wanted a mixture of pictures of my family and me with my friends. My favorite picture is the one from my quinceanera. For my background I wanted a picture of El Salvador since that’s where I was born. I chose a picture of a waterfall that’s located near where my mom grew up. I personally think that I did a better job on the second poster. I still like both of them though. If  I have any free time I want to make another one so I can print it and take it home for my parents.

triptych

This is my very first triptych. It was some what of a challenge because I didn’t know what pictures I should put and how I was going to blend it. In the triptych we had to put something that represented the past, present, and future. So when I thought of my childhood the first thing I thought of was all the old cartoons that they used to give on nick and then for the present I decided to use some recent pictures. For the future I wanted something that represented me graduating college so I put a picture of a graduation. I think that I could have done some things differently on it if I had more time to work on it. Even though I’m not totally satisfied with it, I still like it.

cd-cover-finished

This is my first CD cover I have made. I really didn’t know how I wanted it to look so it was a slow start. The first thing I did was find a picture of the type of phone I have and then I got the idea of putting my picture on the screen of it to make it look like it was the original picture. Then as a was looking for pictures I found the picture of a rose, so I decided to put a picture of a different color rose with it. For the back of the cover I wanted to put something that showed my inner child so I put a picture of my teddy bear (I always sleep with it) with my quinceañera crown on it. It’s kind of a symbol of my childhood and my teen years mixed. I’m happy with my final result.

quiz

This picture was my first quiz in my multimedia class. To create this image I had to use all the skills I have been taught in the class since school began. I think that my skills were really put to the test because I needed to remember how to use each tool and I had to think for myself on how to create the picture instead of the teacher telling us the steps we need to do. I think the biggest challenge was putting everything exactly in the place it had to be in. I ended up moving the buildings around many times until I felt it looked right. For me to accomplish this picture I had to use practically all the tools I have learned to use. The one I used the most was probably the hue and saturation. I am happy with my final result because I didn’t know I had it in me to create a picture like this. Yes it took me a while but it was worth it.

Insect-042—–>>>Insect-042_fixed!

The purpose of this assignment was to make a CD cover. To be able to accomplish this image I had to use the patch tool. The first thing I had to do was to get rid of the bees on the upper right so I could have more space to put the title of the CD. I did that by selecting the area around the bees I didn’t want and then using the patch tool to fix the empty spots. Then I typed the title and chose a color for the font. I personally felt that this assignment was easy compared to some of the other ones we have been doing. I think that my final work looks good and I think that I can use the patch tool a lot better now.

town-country-37 Town-&-Country-37_fixed!

This assignment was a big challenge for me. I had to remove the piece of wood on top of the staircase and get rid of the ladder and all the junk on the bottom of the staircase. The main challenge was that I had to rebuilt the stairs that were covered by the piece of wood. I did that by using the clone tool. I cloned the stairs under and put them on the space where they were missing. You have to be very accurate when you do that because if you are sloppy with it, it won’t look realistic enough. I think that I could have tried a bit harder on this picture. It looks okay but I think if I had taken more time on it, it might look better. I need to practice doing more pictures like this one.
